Regulation 4 - General safety of electrical systems

Requires that all electrical systems should so far as reasonably practicable, be of safe construction and maintaned in that state. 

 

Work carried out on or near systems must be carried out in such a manner as to avoid danger. 

 

any pretective equipment provided must be suitable and properly maintained and used. 

 

 

Regulation 13- Requires suitable precautions to be taken to ensure that, once equipment is isolated so that work can be carried out on it, it cannot become electronically charged again whilst the work is in progress. 

 

 

 

Regulation 14- Live working

Requires that such 'live' working only occurs when it is unavoidable and after suitable protective equipment has been provided. 

 

 

Regulation 15- Access, space and light

requires the provision of adequate working space, safe access and adequate lighting to enable work on electrical equipment to be carried out safely. 

 

 

Regulation 16- Competence

 

Regulation 16 requires that anyone working on electrical systems where technical knowledge or experiance is necessary, must have the required knowledge and/or experiance or be under suitable supervision. 

 

 

Difference between initial verification and preiodic inspection. 

 

Confirm that the installation complies with the design and has been designed and constructed in accordance with BS 7671

Periodic inspection tests that is is still safe to use, it does not mean it has to be up to the current requirements but recommendations may be made. 

 

 

Verification

All installed electrical equipment and material is of the correct type and complies with applicable british standards or acceptable equivalents

All parts of the installation are correctly selected and erected

No parts of the fixed installation is visable damaged or otherwise defective.
